Performance Evaluation of Cellular DS-CDMA Systems

چکیده
Cellular radio can be regarded as the earliest form of wireless “personal communication”. It allows the subscriber to place and receive telephone calls wherever cellular coverage is provided. But with the pessage of time, it becomes more and more difficult to accomodate a large number of users within a limited frequency band. This thesis addresses capacity estimation and a review of work carried out by various authors for Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DSCDMA) cellular mobile systems. Capacity is defined as total number of simultaneous users in a cell that can be served by the system with the predefined performance in a geographical area. An analytical approach has been used to estimate the capacity in worst conditions and IS-95 standard is being used as a reference. The interference contributions are studied on the fixed number of user’s in a log-normally shadowing channel. Outage probability is taken as the main criteria for the esimation of capacity. Capacity results for up-link in different shadowing and channel conditions are discussed for a given outage probability. Effect of capacity enhancement features like power control, antenna beam sectorization and voice activity factor are also discussed. A comparison against previously published CDMA capacity estimates is carried out, aimed at classifying some controversial issues. It is also confirmed that large system capacity is achievable under tight power control.

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)
In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...
متن کاملNonlinear Multiuser Receiver for Optimized Chaos-Based DS-CDMA Systems
Chaos based communications have drawn increasing attention over the past years. Chaotic signals are derived from non-linear dynamic systems. They are aperiodic, broadband and deterministic signals that appear random in the time domain. Because of these properties, chaotic signals have been proposed to generate spreading sequences for wide-band secure communication recently. Like conventional DS...
متن کاملThroughput Improvement of STS-Based MC DS-CDMA System with Variable Spreading Factor
The throughput enhancement of Space-Time Spreading (STS)-based Multicarrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system is investigated in this paper. Variable Spreading Factor (VSF) is utilized to improve the data throughput of the system. In this contribution, an analytical approach is proposed to compute a new expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of t...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Ds-cdma System Using Matlab
The author evaluated the performance of synchronous DS-CDMA systems over multipath fading channel and AWGN Channel. The synchronous DS-CDMA system is well known for eliminating the effects of multiple access interference (MAI) which limits the capacity and degrades the BER performance of the system. This paper investigated the bit error rate (BER) performance of a synchronous DS-CDMA system ove...
متن کاملUse of Higher-order Moments and Related Distribution Series Expansions for Noise Characterisation and Performance Evaluation in Few-user Asynchronous Ds/cdma Systems
This work aims at proposing a higher-order moments analysis, in order to obtain an effective characterisation (in a Non-Gaussian sense) of the global DS/CDMA noise in case of few-user systems and short spreading codes. The use of the Edgeworth series expansion, whose terms are directly linked with the statistical cumulants allows to reach a good approximation of the unknown probability density ...
متن کاملOn the analytical evaluation of closed-loop power-control error statistics in DS-CDMA cellular systems
This paper proposes an analytical study that aims at evaluating the power-control error statistics in wireless direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) cellular systems based on an ideal variable step closed-loop power-control scheme. In particular, the cumulative distribution function and the correlation coefficient of the power control error are derived through a first-order Ta...
